Soviet painter Konstantin Maksimov (1913 – 1994) – People’s Artist of the RSFSR, winner of two Stalin Prizes (1950, 1952), a member of the RSFSR Artists’ Union (1943), Professor. Creativity of K. Maximov dedicated to work and everyday life of the Soviet people and its heroic history, Russian nature. The artist embodied his observations and reflections on the contemporary spiritual world in different genres of painting. He created deeply psychological portraits, large themed compositions. They embodied the noble people of the USSR, outstanding scientists, warriors, farmers, and builders. Maksimov – participant of art exhibitions since 1929. Personal exhibitions of the artist took place in Amsterdam and Shanghai in 2001 and 2002. The artworks are in major art museums of Russia: the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, as well as in private collections abroad: Germany, Netherlands, China, Spain, Italy, France and Japan.

Soviet sculptor Yuri Chernov (1935-2009) – Academician of Russian Academy of Arts (1997, Corresponding Member of 1979), People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1979), Member of the USSR Union of Artists (1960), member of the Academy of Arts of Kyrgyzstan (1998). From 1977 to 1987 – Secretary of the USSR Union of Artists, awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, “Badge of Honor”. The most famous works – the monument to Yuri Gagarin in Moscow and Orenburg.
Yuri Chernov became an orphan early: in 1939, was arrested and killed his father, in 1944, his mother died. The true parental warmth and care, Yuri and his two brothers found in the family of their aunt Anna (elder sister of mother) and her husband Lev Chernov, who adopted the boys, brought up and led them to an independent way of life. Seeing Yuri’s capacity for modeling, he was sent to study at the Moscow Art School (now – Moscow State Art Lyceum), the sculpture department. Communicating with friends, visiting exhibitions, museums, and especially the Tretyakov Gallery, which was opposite the school in Lavrushinsky Lane, living in the atmosphere of art, friendship, respect for knowledge and work – shaped the identity of the future artist.

Soviet painter Victor Kovalenko was born in 1930 in the town of Tuapse, Krasnodar region of Russia. The most vivid and memorable event in a sad childhood was the war. The boy was then only 11 years old, and he could not take part in hostilities. But what was happening around, strongly influenced Victor: “When the war started, I was a kid, but I remember it like today. This is the strongest shock of my life. ” The talent of the artist’s most fully revealed in the painting of the battle scenes. Laureate of Stalin Prize of the second degree (1950) – for the painting “The advanced people of Moscow Kremlin” and a series of paintings “The noble people of Moscow” (co-author), Stalin Prize of the third degree (1952) – for the painting “The meeting of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences” and portraits of Soviet scientists. Oleg Leonidovich Lomakin was born August 26, 1924 in Tver province. After the family moved to Leningrad, he studied in the local art school, then in the City Palace of the pioneers, and in 1940 he was accepted to the eighth class of the Art School at the Russian Academy of Arts.

Soviet Russian artist Ekaterina Chernysheva was born in 25 August 1935 in Moscow, the USSR. People’s Artist of RSFSR, member of the USSR Union of artists (1962), Union of artists of Russia, and member of Peter’s Academy of Arts and Sciences. First of all, Chernysheva as a painter formed in the creative environment of high art, which surrounded a child in a family of her famous father Nikolai Mikhailovich Chernyshev. And from him she received the first lessons in painting. In addition, her parents’ house visited all those who became the pride of the Soviet Art. Among them – P. Kuznetsov, V. Favorsky, Gerasimov, A. Matveyev, Deineka (in his workshop she later learned), and many other artists. Besides, a strong and beneficial moral influence was her father, from whom she learned much. In particular, to observe the beauty of mother nature, the rural way, the poetry of childhood, adolescence and youth.

Soviet Belarusian painter Mikhail Savitsky (February 18, 1922 – November 8, 2010) – People’s Artist of the USSR (1978) and the Belorussian SSR (1972), member of the Russian Academy of Arts and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, laureate of USSR State Prize (1973), Hero of Belarus (2006). Soviet artist Mikhail Andreyevich Savitsky began his military service in the anti-aircraft artillery. Since the beginning of the war as part of the 345th Infantry Division was parachuted into the besieged Sevastopol, during all 250 days participated in the heroic defense of the city. He fought to the last. Then, fully experienced the inhuman hell of Nazi torture chambers. The theme of war became central in his work. It constantly worried him. His works call for vigilance, again and again forcing the price to comprehend today’s peaceful life.
Fame came to the People’s Artist of the USSR M. Savitsky with majestically epic, memorable “Partisan Madonna” (1967). In the image of young mother peasant viewers saw the symbol of Belarus fighting.
