Andrei Mylnikov: “In my opinion, the birth of a work of art is like the birth of a living organism and goes through the same stages – excitement, love and, of course, the suffering. The product most often born in pain. But, having been born, it can have a very long life. Grains of goodness and beauty, planted by the artist, do not always give instant shoots. Crimean landscapes. Soviet painter Victor Kovalenko

Soviet painter Victor Kovalenko was born in 1930 in the town of Tuapse, Krasnodar region of Russia. The most vivid and memorable event in a sad childhood was the war. The boy was then only 11 years old, and he could not take part in hostilities. But what was happening around, strongly influenced Victor: “When the war started, I was a kid, but I remember it like today. This is the strongest shock of my life. ” The talent of the artist’s most fully revealed in the painting of the battle scenes. Laureate of Stalin Prize of the second degree (1950) – for the painting “The advanced people of Moscow Kremlin” and a series of paintings “The noble people of Moscow” (co-author), Stalin Prize of the third degree (1952) – for the painting “The meeting of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences” and portraits of Soviet scientists. Oleg Leonidovich Lomakin was born August 26, 1924 in Tver province. After the family moved to Leningrad, he studied in the local art school, then in the City Palace of the pioneers, and in 1940 he was accepted to the eighth class of the Art School at the Russian Academy of Arts.

Russian field. Soviet Russian artist Ekaterina Chernysheva (born 1935)

Soviet Russian artist Ekaterina Chernysheva was born in 25 August 1935 in Moscow, the USSR. People’s Artist of RSFSR, member of the USSR Union of artists (1962), Union of artists of Russia, and member of Peter’s Academy of Arts and Sciences. First of all, Chernysheva as a painter formed in the creative environment of high art, which surrounded a child in a family of her famous father Nikolai Mikhailovich Chernyshev. And from him she received the first lessons in painting. In addition, her parents’ house visited all those who became the pride of the Soviet Art. Among them – P. Kuznetsov, V. Favorsky, Gerasimov, A. Matveyev, Deineka (in his workshop she later learned), and many other artists. Besides, a strong and beneficial moral influence was her father, from whom she learned much. Soviet Belarusian painter Mikhail Savitsky (February 18, 1922 – November 8, 2010) – People’s Artist of the USSR (1978) and the Belorussian SSR (1972), member of the Russian Academy of Arts and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, laureate of USSR State Prize (1973), Hero of Belarus (2006). Soviet artist Mikhail Andreyevich Savitsky began his military service in the anti-aircraft artillery. Since the beginning of the war as part of the 345th Infantry Division was parachuted into the besieged Sevastopol, during all 250 days participated in the heroic defense of the city. He fought to the last. Then, fully experienced the inhuman hell of Nazi torture chambers. The theme of war became central in his work. It constantly worried him. His works call for vigilance, again and again forcing the price to comprehend today’s peaceful life.
Fame came to the People’s Artist of the USSR M. Savitsky with majestically epic, memorable “Partisan Madonna” (1967). In the image of young mother peasant viewers saw the symbol of Belarus fighting.

Cigarette case from Mosselprom. 1925 ads. Soviet poster artist Izrail Bograd (1899 – 1938)

Soviet poster artist Izrail Bograd (1899 – 1938) – graphic artist, designer, poster artist, member of the USSR Union of Artists. Over the short term, the creative artist I. D. Bograd made a significant contribution to the formation of the art of advertising and design in the USSR, he has laid the foundation for their further development. Performed commercial advertising, movie posters and brochures to the movies. In 1920 – 1930-ies he was one of the leading masters of cinema advertising, working for joint-stock companies “Mezhrabpom-Rus” and “Mezhrabpomfilm”. Bograd graduated from art school in Rostov-on-Don, and had incomplete higher professional education. He participated in exhibitions since 1925. Last poster of Bograd dates back to 1938. He was arrested on February 22, 1938, incriminated spying for Japan. By the decision of the People’s Commissariat of the Commission’s Internal Affairs (NKVD) and the USSR Prosecutor’s Office on May 25, 1938 sentenced to death. The judgment given in pursuance of June 7 of the same year. Buried at Butovo.

Soviet political cartoonist Boris Yefimov (28 September 1900 – October 1, 2008) – People’s Artist of the USSR (1967), Hero of Socialist Labor (1990), laureate of the State Prize (1950, 1951). Boris Yefimov was always an interesting personality. World-renowned cartoonist, who was friends with Mayakovsky and Trotsky, saw Nicholas II, had talks with Stalin, and was Hitler’s personal enemy. Boris Yefimov, having all imaginable awards and titles, created during his long life (108 years), more than 40 thousand cartoons. Along with Deni, D.S.Moor, L.G.Brodaty, MM Cheremnykh, and Kukryniksy he has created a unique phenomenon in world culture – “positive satire”. September 28, 2007, on his 107th birthday, he was appointed chief artist of the newspaper “Izvestia”, and at the age of 107 continued work. He wrote his memoirs and drew caricatures, took an active part in public life, speaking at all sorts of memorabilia and commemorative meetings, parties and other events. Boris Efimov died on October 1st, 2008 in Moscow at the 109-year of life and was buried in the Novodevichy cemetery columbarium.
