Soviet textile artist Gleb Aleksandrovich Belyshev (June 29, 1922 – January 13, 2016) – a member of the USSR Union of Artists (1957), and Cavalier of the Order of Red Banner of Labor in 1971 for the decoration of fabrics. Belyshev – a veteran of World War II, has war medals “For Courage”, “For Victory over Germany”, the Order of “Patriotic War” II degree, and commemorative medals. Since 1962, Gleb Belyshev was the chief designer of Barnaul cotton mill and the founder of the artistic textile Altai school. During his work at the cotton mill, under the guidance of the master, were created about 2000 drawings for calico and satin, which gained recognition not only in the Soviet Union, but also at the international exhibitions in Brussels, Paris, and Leipzig.
The artist participated in the regional art exhibitions in Barnaul, in the IV and V zonal art exhibition “Socialist Siberia”, at the All-Union Exhibition of Economic Achievements of the USSR and others. The style of work of Soviet textile artist Gleb Aleksandrovich Belyshev was recognizable. The most famous – “Invitation to Tea”, “Barnaul anniversary”, “Polkhovsky houses”, “Polkhovsky nesting dolls.” The clothing models made at Novosibirsk fashion house from fabric “Invitation to the tea”, successfully exhibited in France in 1977 and in East Germany (Leipzig) in 1978. By 1982, the workshop has developed more than 1300 drawings for calico and satin.
He was a master of still life, a painter, a subtle colorist, masterfully owning watercolors. Works by Belyshev convey the subtlest color shades. The most famous of his works – “The branch of bird cherry” (1953), “White Rose” (1992), “Red rose” (1991) and others.
Gleb Alexandrovich, was born June 29, 1922 in the city of Ivanovo. In 1942, he graduated from Ivanovo Chemical Technology (coloristic) College with a degree in “technician-artist of workshops of printed cottons factories”.

As a textile artist Belyshev started working at the enterprises of the city of Ivanovo, following the traditions of Russian and Soviet art school. In 1962 the artist was invited to the cotton mill in the city of Barnaul. He formed and led the art studio complex, and trained several generations of artists.
His works are in the Ivanovo Museum of Art, State Art Museum of Altai Territory (Barnaul), at the Museum of Peoples of the East in Moscow, as well as in private collections in Russia, USA, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Japan and Cuba.
Gleb Belyshev died on January 13, 2016, buried in Barnaul.
