Soviet artists Tkachev Brothers
Talented Soviet artists Tkachev Brothers – Alexei and Sergei were born in the village of Chuchunovka of Bryansk region; Sergey in 1922, Alexei in 1925. People’s Artists of the USSR Alexei and Sergei Tkachev – has been working as a unique tandem since 1952. Natives of a large peasant family had to fight for their dream – to go through war and poverty. However, the ordeal only tempered character, and the theme of heroism of a common man has become central in the work of the brothers. Alongside with heroism, the theme of Russian village in the focus of the artists. Heroes of their paintings – real people, contemporaries, family, friends, neighbors in the village where they grew up. At the same time, the artists seek to create typical images, which embody the national character. Through the prism of rural life, exacerbating the effects and characteristics of the characters, Tkachev convey the “truth of time,” the drama of their country. Brothers Tkachev said: “Without the Soviet power we would become shepherds”. Their paintings are stored in many museums, including – the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum and more than a hundred museums in Russia and the CIS countries, the US museums, Italy, China, as well as in private collections in twelve foreign countries.
Aleksei Tkachev
Aleksei Petrovich Tkachev was born September 11, 1925 in the village of Chuchunovka of Bryansk region. In 1939, he entered the newly founded Moscow Art School. 1941 – 1942 worked in evacuation at the plant “Uralmash” in Sverdlovsk. In 1951 he graduated from the Faculty of Painting of the Moscow State Art Institute of Surikov (workshop of GG Ryazhsky). Aleksei Tkachev is a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, People’s Artist of the USSR, Artistic director of the creative workshop of the Academy of Arts, Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and the USSR State Prize of Ilya Repin.
Aleksei Tkachev was awarded order of “Friendship of Peoples”, “Labor Red Banner” and “Badge of Honor”, “For Merit” of 3 and 4 degree. Winner of the International Sholokhov Prize – 2005, Russian Government Prize – 2006 and Tyutchev Award – 2007. Winner of the Prize of the Union State in the field of literature and art for 2009 – 2010. Winner of the Prize of the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation in the field of literature and art for 2010. He was awarded the gold medals of the USSR Academy of Arts, the Gold Medal of Surikov “For outstanding contribution to Russian art.”
Sergey Tkachev
Sergey Petrovich Tkachev was born November 10, 1922 in the village of Chuchunovka Bryansk region. In 1938 -1941 he studied at the Vitebsk Art School. Member of the Great Patriotic War, was seriously wounded. In 1952 he graduated from the Faculty of Painting of the Moscow State Art Institute of Surikov (workshop of SV Gerasimov, DK Mochalsky). In 1976 – 1987 was elected chairman of the Union of Artists. 1980 – 1985 – The deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and the USSR State Prize of Ilya Repin.
He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of II degree, “Friendship of Peoples”, “Labor Red Banner”, “Badge of Honor”, “For Merit” grade 3 and 4, the medal “For Courage”, “For Military Merit”, “For Victory over Germany.” Winner of the International Sholokhov Prize – 2005, Russian Government Prize – 2006 and Tyutchev Award – 2007. Winner of the Prize of the Union State in the field of literature and art for 2009 – 2010. Winner of the Prize of the Central Federal District of the Russian Federation in the field of literature and art for 2010. He was awarded the gold medals of the USSR Academy of Arts, the Gold Medal of Surikov “For outstanding contribution to Russian art.”
In 1995, at the home of painters in Bryansk was opened Tkachev Brothers Museum, to which they donated more than 500 of their paintings.
