Born August 22, 1880 in the village of Vvedenskoe, Moscow Province, Ivan Georgievich Drozdov – Russian painter, and artist of decorative and applied art. Drozdov painted portraits, landscapes, and everyday scenes. After 1917 he created paintings on the themes of revolutionary history and Soviet life. Member of the Union of Artists (1918), the Association of Artists (1916, 1922), the Society of Artists of AI Kuindzhi (1917-27, with interruptions), Association of Artists of revolutionary Russia (1923-29, in 1924-26 – chairman of the Leningrad branch). Ivan Georgievich Drozdov became the member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1932.
He received his original art education in the 1890’s in the icon painting workshop of M. Molov and the Moscow art school of A.P. Bolshakov. Besides, Drozdov studied in Penza art college, workshop of KA Savitsky (1900-1904). In addition, he studied at the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, workshops of famous Russian artists VE Makovsky, IE Repin, and VE Savinsky (1904-1910).

Noteworthy, in 1910, for the paintings “Resellers” and “Repentance” he received the title of the artist, as well as the right to a sponsored trip abroad for a period of 2 years. So, the artist visited Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Bulgaria.

Participant of the first state free exhibition of works of art (1919), he also took part in the exhibition of Petrograd artists of all directions (1923). Then, at the exhibition “Modern Leningrad Artistic Groups” (1928-29) in Petrograd – Leningrad. Also, the World Exhibition in New York (1939) and others. Besides, he conducted a solo exhibition in Leningrad (1935).

Author of genre paintings, landscapes, portraits, Ivan Georgievich Drozdov painted a lot. His main works: Under the Christmas tree (1915), Summer, The Samovar, The First Red Army (1924), The Leningrad Port, Arrival of the First Komsomol Replenishment in 1922 (1932), and “Visit of GK Ordzhonikidze to the plant Zaporizhstal”.

Russian artist Ivan Georgievich Drozdov died on November 26, 1939 in Leningrad, the USSR. In 1940, the artist’s posthumous exhibition took place in Leningrad. His works are in a number of museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Theatrical Museum of St. Petersburg, the Yekaterinburg Art Gallery, the Central Naval Museum (St. Petersburg), and others.
